'pinot noir'

Embellished with grape leaves and a detail on the back resembling a wine glass charm, this shoe is black suede, wood , polymer clay, leather and copper leaf, patinaed and distressed.  Not even close to what I originally intended.  Sometimes these shoes seem to make themselves.

Virtual Shoe Museum

I recently submitted photos of a few miniature shoes to the Virtual Shoe Museum.  I highly recommend exploring this website if you love shoes, imaginative design and great craftsmanship. Sadly, they were not interested in my shoes which was more disappointing to me than I expected. But after the initial feeling of rejection I reminded myself that while I like it when folks admire my work, whether they do or do not has little to do with why I do it.

'skin and bone'

Now this one is finally finished.  Sooooo glad!  It took me a while to decide just what to do with this wonderful heel (also made for me by my son).

I love it.

chris francis

I have had the great good fortune to meet shoe designer Chris Francis.  He has set up shop over the summer at the Craft and Folk Art Museum in Los Angeles where his imaginative shoes are displayed.
He is quite nice and generous in sharing his knowledge. Finally I can observe a shoemaker in action and learn more techniques I can adapt to miniature shoes.

'Spiral'

This shoe is nearly finished.  Only the laces need to be added.  The heel is one my son designed and had made for me in brass.  I think it's spectacular.

My new work area is perfect.  It literally inspires me (and it's so easy to keep neat!). I already have another shoe substantially in the making and a third idea in the wings.

Happy, happy.
I added a touch of red to the sole.

a new workspace

I have organized a new workspace.  So much better
than before.  Not quite sure what I will be making
next but I think it's time to play a little.
